Dyess Air Force Base was built in Abilene, TX in 1942. Their host unit is the 7th Bomb Wing of the Global Strike Command. Dyess houses up to 13,000 military members and their families. The Air Force Base also offers group tours for schools, girl & boy scouts, and anyone with a group of over 10 people. You must fill out a tour request up to 30 days before the date you wish to your so it can be approved by Public Affairs. The base also has a Heritage Museum, Memorial Park, and Linear Air Park. The Exchange center also houses a food court, an Express store, and many other services needed for our military members.
The Expo Center of Taylor County is home to many major events, including the West Texas Fair & Rodeo. Construction began in 1987 for the fairgrounds and has been hosting what is now known as the West Texas Fair since 1937. The events center is also home to the Western Heritage Classic, Taylor County Livestock Show, Equine events, and many other sports competitions and entertainment opportunities. Adventure Cove is fun for all ages! Adventure Cove offers a leisure pool, a lazy pool, 3 water slides, a covered patio, and a bathhouse. They also have plans to eventually expand the lazy river! The water park is open on Sundays-Mondays from 1 PM- 7 PM and Tuesdays-Saturdays from 11 AM-7 PM. Admission for kids 2 and under is free, kids under 48 inches tall are $4, kids over 48 inches are $6, and adults are $7. The park also has the Castaway Café which serves hot food, snacks, beverages, and ice cream! They also have Pete’s Party Pavilion available for rental!
